The tokyo based artists use flashlights with what looks a like a coloured ball (or gel) on the end. They use glow sticks too but only for things like the drum sticks (as seen in this clip).

The camera is set up on a tripod and it's shutter-speed set to a long exposure or bulb. Expect to shoot a lot of frames (100 images x 25 fps = 4 seconds). I don't know what they edit their clips in but I edit my time-lapses in After Effects.

I'm sure you can find the making of it if you google for a bit, I can't remember where i saw it.

I'm more of a music guy, but very interested in graphic work as people I know and people in my family are into that side of the arts.

I just wanted to say the hook they used in that sprint vid is tried and true aka really cheesy. that's like the most obvious riff you'd write to get the emotion this ad was designed to achieve. I thought that was humorous.
